Introduction
Jade is developing a portfolio of exceptional clean coal projects that reduce greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide and other harmful emissions including sulphurous and nitrous oxides.
We are commercialising integrated underground coal gasification (UCG) and carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology.
Underground coal gasification is a process of extracting the energy value from coal without mining it – instead the coal is gasified in situ at high temperature and then extracted as a hydrogen and methane rich gas known as synthesis gas or syngas.
The syngas can be utilised as a clean fuel and any carbon-rich flue gases resulting from combustion of the syngas can be captured and stored in the spent coal seams. The spent coal seams provide a sound geological structure for safe long-term storage of carbon dioxide and therefore our integrated process enables coal to used as a low-carbon fuel.
Safe scalable technology
Jade has considerable know-how and has developed unique monitoring and control technologies that safely control the UCG process.
Our technology allows local engineers to optimise the UCG reaction for different grades of coal and ensure the resulting syngas has a consistent quality. The technology allows multiple projects to be run in parallel to deliver commercial volumes of syngas. |
Business Model
There is a world market for the syngas produced by UCG technology.
Syngas has approximately 1/3 of the calorific value of natural gas and trades accordingly.
It can be utilised as a fuel for power stations, fuel cells and as a feedstock for chemical factories:
Syngas can be used to fuel efficient combined cycle gas turbines (CCGT) that produce electricity with a 25% lower carbon footprint than conventional coal-fired power stations
Syngas can be cleaned and compressed to form a clean-diesel or used as a feed stock for chemical factories to produce higher value products such as methanol, dimethyl ether (DME) and ammonia

Clean Coal Projects
Jade is working on a portfolio of projects worldwide. We seek to acquire coal resources for our own commercial use, work in partnership with coalfield owners, as well as help governments decarbonise their coal industry.
Our primary focus is on developing nations that have significant coal resources and a growing demand for power.
We are currently developing UCG and CCS projects in:
China
India
Africa
